B-Meters

B METERS s.r.l. is an Italian maker of water and thermal energy meters founded in 1991 by the Budai family in Gonars Italy (Udine). The company operates three plants and now produces about 1.4 to 2.2 million meters annually for 90+ countries. The company was created after the family had already accumulated 20–30 years of experience in water‑meter manufacturing, which shaped its early focus on mechanical metering accuracy and European certification compliance. 📏 Product Evolution (Historical & Technical)

Mechanical Era (1990s–2000s)

B METERS began with classical European meter types:

- Single‑jet domestic meters

- Multi‑jet meters

- Woltmann (turbine) meters for bulk flow

These early products followed Italian and EU metrological standards and were aimed at water utilities and industrial clients.

Pulse‑Output & Modular Telemetry (2000s–2010s)

The company adopted modular add‑ons:

- Reed‑switch pulse modules

- M‑Bus and Wireless M‑Bus (OMS)

- Early remote‑reading systems

This allowed mechanical meters to be upgraded into semi‑smart devices.

Smart & IoT Metering (2015–present)

B METERS now produces:

- Existing range of traditional mechanical meters - Ultrasonic water meters

- Electromagnetic flow meters

- Smart heat meters & heat‑cost allocators

- LoRaWAN, NB‑IoT, and OMS radio modules

A representative example is the WDE‑K50 Woltmann, which can be converted into a smart meter using the IWM‑LR4 LoRaWAN module. Manufacturing is anchored in Industry 4.0 automation and electronic MID test benches, operated in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 principles. B METERS holds ISO 9001/14001 and EU MID (Modules B & D) approvals, with additional potable‑water certifications (e.g., WRAS/ACS/KIWA) on specific lines. The firm exemplifies Europe’s transition from mechanical dials to connected, standards‑compliant metering systems. The HWM.Museum has a 20mm Single-Jet cold water meter with pulse in its collection (pictured below).
