Bosco & Co.

📜 Bosco & C. Torino was a water-meter manufacturer from Via Buenos Ayres, near Corso Stupinigi, Turin, Italy. Bosco & C. (Turin, Italy) was a specialised Italian manufacturer of water meters documented as active by 1911 under the style "Fabbrica Italiana Misuratori per Acqua" ("Italian Factory of Water Meters"). The firm maintained a substantial presence in Turin, claiming approximately 25,000 installed meters and supplying municipal and private water users. Contemporary advertisements indicate participation in major Italian industrial exhibitions and the receipt of awards in Turin (1911 and 1928) and Rome (1912). By about 1940 Bosco marketed a range of turbine water meters through formal printed catalogues. Surviving industrial meters and instructional cutaway models demonstrate a technically sophisticated manufacturing operation whose products remained visible in Italy throughout much of the early to mid. twentieth century.

A surviving 1911 catalogue is titled:

"Bosco & C. - Fabbrica Italiana Misuratori per Acqua - Torino" which translates as: "Bosco & Co. - Italian Factory of Water Meters - Turin."

This is strong evidence that by 1911, Bosco & C. was already manufacturing water meters in Turin.

From discovered trade catalogues of the late 1920s it was marketing itself as an established and decorated meter manufacturer.

A surviving trade catalogue survives from approximately 1940:

"Contatori Bosco per acqua: tipi a turbina da 10 a 40 mm. Listino 103" issued by Bosco & C. of Turin. Scattered material remains of the company's former existence. 🏭 The BOSCO name survives into the modern era via Bosco-branded water meters sold in Italy but there appears to be no connection with the original company and most likely sourced from a manufacturer in China. Further, research will need to be conducted to conclude when the original company began and ceased operations.

This Museum has in its collection a rare 1940's perfectly preserved Bosco 13mm water meter and postcard (accquired Nov.2026).
