Founded in 1946 by Olaf Kamstrup in Aarhus, Denmark.

Started as a small, one‑man workshop providing technical and measurement solutions.

The company was built on the philosophy: ā€œthere is always a better solution.ā€

Early focus was on measurement technology, which later evolved into energy and water meters.


⚔ Expansion and Transformation (1990s)

1990: Acquired by Danish energy company OK (still the owner today).

1991: Major turning point—Kamstrup invested heavily in ultrasonic measuring technology.

Ultrasonic meters became industry‑leading technology for water and heating systems.


šŸŒ Growth into Smart Metering (1998–2010)

1998: Entered the electricity meter market.

2000: Production became fully automated, improving quality and scale.

2002: Introduced wireless communication in meters (early IoT step).

2005: Launched first smart grid solutions, moving beyond simple metering.

2010: Released advanced intelligent water meter MULTICALĀ® 21.

2012: Introduced OMNIA platform for integrated smart grid systems.

2013: Launched Ready software for remote meter reading.

Expanded internationally, including North America operations (from 2013).
