London & Westminster Water Meter Co.

📜 London & Westminster Meter Company (Limited)

The London & Westminster Meter Co. was a specialist manufacturer and distributor of water and gas meters operating from 1866 to 1869. Operating from Johnson’s Place, Lupus Street, Pimlico London S.W, the company supplied precision instruments to London’s expanding water and gas utilities.

Its principal product, Myers’s Patent Water Meter, was a cylinder‑and‑piston positive‑displacement meter advertised as “measuring every drop of water passing through it.” Available in sizes from ¾" to 3", it offered a simple, robust, and moderately priced alternative to the better‑known Kent and Kennedy meters of the period.

The firm also produced the A B C Gas Meter, notable for displaying the money payable for gas consumed, and acted as a distributor for Edge’s Gas Meters and other utility apparatus.

Although little archival material survives, the company represents the London‑based engineering firms that supported the Metropolitan Water Board and exported metering technology throughout the British Empire. The company was voluntarily wound up the 27th  July 1869 (London Gazette). The below brochure most likely dates from 1867.
