🧭 Emmco (Electricity Meter Manufacturing Co. Ltd) was established in 1913 by J. Schartl and E. Shulz in Sydney, Australia. Initially, the enterprise manufactured electrical products, including electricity meters and radios. Over time, their focus expanded to include various other items. Timeline:- 1914 - Schartl and Shulz both electricians began a small concern at 41 Dixon Street Sydney. 1915 - Established a factory at Wentworth Avenue in Surry Hills, Sydney, to manufacture electrical products. 1921 - Moved to 29-31 Burton Street, Darlinghurst, Sydney. 1924 - Opened a factory in Australia Street Camperdown specifically for manufacturing electricity meters. 1928 - Set up a new large new factory on Joynton Avenue, Waterloo, NSW, where they produced complete radios, electricity meters and other products on mass production lines. 1934 - EMMCO merged with New Systems Telephone Pty. Ltd., and the name was changed to Electricity Meter and Allied Industries Ltd (EMAIL an acronym adopted in 1951). The company continued to grow, producing electric, gas, and water meters, as well as radios and appliances. At one time there would have been few houses in Australia which did not have an Email meter. Email's original and longest running business is the manufacturing of electric, gas and water meters. 1946 - After World War II, Email obtained the former Orange Small Arms Factory at Orange, New South Wales, which was refitted to manufacture electricity meters, pumps, radio parts and refrigerators, using latest state of the art technologies and production concepts. EMAIL became a significant player in Australian manufacturing, with its products found in many households across the country. 1955 - Radio production ceased, but Email continued manufacturing white goods and began water meter manufacturing.
