Brunata

Brunata is a Danish cleantech company founded in 1917, originally known for pioneering heat‑cost allocation in multi‑dwelling buildings. Over time it expanded into water metering, remote‑reading systems, and IoT‑based building intelligence, and today forms part of the Minol–Zenner Group, one of the world’s largest metering conglomerates.

Brunata’s mission has consistently centred on accurate consumption measurement and fair distribution of water and heat costs.

Early Foundations (1917–1930s)

Brunata’s origins trace back to 1917, when the first Danish heat‑cost allocators were assembled using thermoelectric measurement principles introduced through the engineering firm Kemp & Lauritzen. These early devices were serviced by Brunata until 2014, reflecting the company’s long‑term service ethos.

By the 1930s, Brunata had moved into mass production of evaporation‑based heat allocators—ampoule devices mounted on radiators that recorded consumption through liquid evaporation. This technology became widely adopted across Europe.

Expansion into Water Metering

Although Brunata’s early identity was tied to heating, the company broadened into water metering as European housing shifted toward consumption‑based billing.

Brunata now provides:

- Mechanical water meters (e.g., multi‑jet domestic meters)

- Ultrasonic smart meters

- Bulk Woltman meters

- Valve‑integrated compact meters

- Remote‑reading and IoT‑enabled meters

These devices are integrated into Brunata’s digital monitoring and billing systems, supporting fair allocation of water, heat, electricity, and other utilities.

Brunata’s water‑metering capability is strengthened through its position within the Minol–Zenner Group, giving it access to ZENNER’s global metering technology ecosystem.

Its focus is on making buildings and cities more efficient through data‑driven resource management, particularly in residential and public housing. In the Museums collection is a original Brunata impeller hot water meter from 1990.
