⚙️ Overview

Axioma Metering is a European developer and manufacturer of ultrasonic water meters and heat meters, representing the transition from traditional mechanical metering to the modern era of smart, digitally connected utility measurement. Based in Lithuania, the company is a supplier of advanced water metering technology to utilities, municipalities, and building-management operators worldwide.


Unlike the classic meter manufacturers of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, Axioma belongs to a newer generation of companies whose products rely on electronic ultrasonic measurement rather than moving mechanical measuring elements.


Origins

The roots of the company date to 1992, when the organisation introduced its first ultrasonic heat metering technology. From these beginnings, Axioma developed expertise in ultrasonic measurement systems and progressively expanded into water metering products.

The company operates as UAB Axioma Metering, with manufacturing facilities in the Kaunas region and administrative operations in Vilnius, Lithuania.

During the 1990s and early 2000s, the company concentrated on developing proprietary metering technologies rather than simply assembling equipment designed elsewhere.

🏭 Development into a Water-Meter Manufacturer

As water utilities increasingly sought improved accuracy, lower maintenance requirements, and remote-reading capability, Axioma expanded its product range beyond heat metering into water metering.


The company's water-meter portfolio evolved around ultrasonic transit-time technology, eliminating the need for:

impellers, pistons, turbines, magnetic couplings and moving mechanical measuring chambers.

This represented a major technological shift from conventional utility meters that had dominated the industry for over a century.


Ultrasonic Metering Technology

Traditional water meters measure flow using moving mechanical components. By contrast, Ultrasonic meters determine flow electronically by measuring the transit time of ultrasonic signals travelling through the water stream.

No moving internal parts.

High accuracy at low flow rates.

Reduced mechanical wear.

Long service life.

Minimal maintenance.

Advanced leak detection capability.

Automated data collection.

These characteristics helped establish ultrasonic technology as one of the leading directions in modern water metering.


Axioma's best-known water-meter products are marketed under the QALCOSONIC name. Current models include Residential ultrasonic meters, Commercial and utility-scale ultrasonic meters and Smart metering systems with remote communications.
