Reliance Manufacturing Co.

RMC (Reliance Manufacturing Company, later Reliance Worldwide Corporation) first began manufacturing water control products in 1949 in Brisbane, Australia, but their focus was initially on valves for hot water systems. Their dedicated production of water meters came later, as part of their expansion into broader plumbing and flow‑control solutions under the RMC Reliance Valves brand. 🏭 Timeline of RMC and Water Meter Development. 1949 – Founding in Brisbane: RMC was established to make water heating systems safer, focusing on temperature and pressure valves. 1950s–1970s – Expansion: The company broadened into plumbing fittings and water control devices. 1980s–1990s – Water Meter Introduction: RMC began producing positive displacement water meters for low flows and other mechanical meters for residential and commercial use. In 1986, RMC was acquired by GSA Group, a private investment company. 1990s–2000''s Multijet turbine meters - durable, suited for higher flows. 2000s–2010s Woltman industrial meters for Large-scale water measurement. 2000's–Present – Smart Metering: RMC added ultrasonic and external manufactured electronic meters. RWC listed as a public company on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) in 2016. Today the company produces water meters, valves, backflow prevention devices, and plumbing fittings. H/O located at 27 – 28 Chapman Place, Eagle Farm, QLD 4009 The H.W.M.Museum has a number of RMC manufactured water meters in its collection.
