WDHS Historic Utilities Meter Collection

Willoughby District Historical Society Museum - Water Meter and Utilities Meter Collection

In September 2026, the Historic Water Meter Museum (HWMM) established a display featuring historic ManuFlo liquid measurement products, including examples from the company's early years when it operated from its Sydney Street, Willoughby workshop from 1965.

Displayed on the lower shelf are three historic water meters: a Davies Shephard meter manufactured in Victoria in the 1890s, a Davies Kent meter manufactured in New South Wales in the 1960s, and an Emmco water meter produced in New South Wales during the 1970s.

Also included in the display are an early Emmco electricity meter from the 1930s and a coin-operated gas meter manufactured in 1946.

Together, these items represent important examples of the metering technology historically used for the measurement and billing of water, electricity, and gas, providing an insight into the utility services that supported the local district throughout its development. At the Museum, visitors can explore artifacts from the local area, including items from notable businesses founded in the district, as well as objects that reflect everyday life from the mid-1850s onwards.

The Willoughby District Historical Society (WDHS) Museum is located at 58 Johnson Street, Chatswood, NSW, and is open most Sundays from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. http://willoughbydhs.org.au/ https://mgnsw.org.au/organisations/willoughby-district-historical-society-inc/
